Valentine’s Day is only one month away. People are thinking about flowers and chocolates and teddy bears. They are planning their romantic dinners or romantic getaways. But what a lot of people don’t consider is a romantic hike.
Think about it. You and your significant other are outside in nature, seeing some truly beautiful sights. Hikes don’t cost any money, and you get to spend quality time with each other. It’s a perfect win-win for everyone involved. So instead of wasting time stressing out over presents and expensive outings, consider some of the best romantic hiking spots in Los Angeles to woo your loved one.

Bridge to Nowhere
Our first spot is a 10-mile trip inside the San Gabriel Mountains that begins in Azusa. This moderately difficult hike includes multiple water crossings and features swimming areas and rock formation; pack water-proof shoes and towels!
The highlight of the trip, though, is the abandoned Bridge to Nowhere that crosses the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. For an extra treat, the bridge has bungee jumping on the weekends. Please note that you will need a free Wilderness Permit for the hike.
Eaton Canyon Falls
For an easier hike, try this 3.5-mile trip into the San Gabriel Mountains that ends at a 40-foot waterfall. This beautiful stop includes a natural swimming pool. If you are looking for something extra, nearby is the Eaton Canyon Nature Center.
Griffith Park
Though this is not an actual trail, this 4,200-plus acre area includes numerous trails with amazing views of Los Angeles. From Griffith Observatory, you can choose from a handful of trails that lead to Mt. Hollywood to see the skyline of downtown Los Angeles. This is a perfect option for a sunset hike.
Another must is the Hollyridge Trail that ends behind the famous Hollywood sign. Included in Griffith Park are the Los Angeles Zoo, the Autry National Center and the Greek Theater.
Heart Rock Falls
One of the more romantic hiking spots of the bunch, this 1.7-mile roundtrip hike ends with not only at a 20-foot waterfall but also a heart-shaped cutout in the rock formation. This romantic spot is perfect for a picnic and a day spent exploring.
Los Liones Trail
This trail is meant for the more daring and challenging hikers. At seven miles, the Los Liones Trail explores hills, pastures and forests. As part of the Topanga State Park, it ends at the Parker Mesa Overlook with a view of the Santa Monica Bay. An iconic spot on the trail is a singular bench overlooking a dazzling view of the Pacific Ocean and the coastline.
Malibu Creek State Park
Another large park, this 8,000-plus acre area is the ideal spot for a romantic weekend trip. It is filled with campgrounds, trails and viewpoints and boasts more than just hiking – take your pick from rock climbing, horseback riding, fishing, bird watching, biking and more.
For the hiking portion, highlights include the M*A*S*H filming site, watering holes and adobe ruins. There are no wrong options here. Note that an all-day pass is $12 per car.
San Gorgonio Mountain
Another difficult trial, this 17-mile hike is to the highest peak in Southern California. San Gorgonio Mountain, AKA Old Grayback, features views of Mt. San Jacinto. Please note that an adventure pass is required.
Solstice Canyon
One of the more popular trails is the Solstice Canyon off the Pacific Coast Highway into the Santa Monica Mountains. With numerous trails ranging from easy to moderate to difficult, this option is perfect for any hiker. The 2.6-mile loop ends at a waterfall and rock pools. Scenic sights include the ruins of the Roberts House and Keller House.
Temescal Canyon Trail
The last of our hiking spots is the Temescal Canyon Trail, which is also in the Santa Monica Mountains. This trail features numerous trails with stunning canyon and ocean views. The basic loop is 2.6 miles and has a waterfall and bridge. Please note there is a $10 parking fee.
